Professional informations

Mtre Étienne Ruel earned degrees in political science (1994) and law (1997) from Université de Montréal. He joined Prévost Fortin D’Aoust in 1998 as an articling student in the family law group and was made partner in 2008.

Today, Mtre Ruel continues to practice family and succession law, handling cases involving legal separations, custody and alimony disputes, property division, protective supervision, mandates in case of incapacity, name changes, national and international adoption, juvenile court and estate litigation. He has argued before Québec Superior Court, the Court of Québec and the Québec Court of Appeal. He also negotiates out-of-court settlements.

Mtre Ruel is also a family mediator.

Through the years, he has developed trust relationships with his clients, always aiming to determine practical and effective solutions to the matters at hand.

Mtre Ruel speaks publically on family law and writes articles on current topics in the field. He was president of the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie Thérèse-de-Blainville in 2009-2010 and is now president of the governors board. In 2009-2010, Mtre Ruel was also a member of the continuing education committee of the Québec Bar for training in ethics and deontology.

Social involvement

Mr. Ruel has served as President of the Thérèse-De Blainville Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He also served on the continuing education committee of the Quebec Bar in matters of ethics and professional conduct and sat on the liaison committees with the judiciary of the Superior Court and the Court of Quebec for the district of Terrebonne for more than seven years old. He is currently chairman of the Board of Directors of Caisse Desjardins de l’Envolée and chairs the organization arranging the Jeux du Québec in Blainville in 2026.
